How to Organize YouTube Subscriptions by Topic

When your subscriptions mix tutorials, news, music, and entertainment, the feed can become difficult to scan. A small set of topic groups makes it easier to choose what to watch without changing the channels you follow.

  1. 1

    Install the organizer

Add YouAssistant from the Chrome Web Store, then open YouTube and let the extension load your subscribed channels.

  2. 2

    Create your groups

Make a few topic groups that match your viewing habits. You can rename or reorder them as your interests change.

  3. 3

    Sort and browse

Move channels into groups, then use the group view to focus on the topic you want. Search and bulk actions can help when you have many subscriptions to organize.

Start with a few broad categories

Create groups around the way you actually watch: Learning, Tech, News, Music, Gaming, or Relaxing. Start with four to seven groups. Categories that are too specific take more effort to maintain than they save.

Keep the system easy to maintain

Put a channel in the group where you are most likely to look for it. If a creator covers several subjects, use a flexible setup that lets the channel appear in more than one group when your tool supports it. Leave room for new subscriptions instead of redesigning everything each month.

Use a repeatable review routine

When you subscribe to a new channel, assign it to a group soon after. Once a week, review channels that are still uncategorized and remove subscriptions you no longer watch. Short, regular reviews prevent the list from becoming messy again.
